Overview

In this 16-hour self-directed online micro-credential, learners will explore the role of paraprofessionals in observing skin integrity changes in a patient's condition and why skin integrity is an important factor in patient health. They will also discover when skin integrity issues and conditions must be escalated to a clinical manager. Learners will also learn how to take a pulse and blood pressure reading to monitor a patient's health and communicate these readings to a nurse.

Learners who successfully complete the course will earn a digital badge and certificate of course completion that can be downloaded and shared via social media. 

You will have access to the course for 90 days to work through the content.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, learners should be able to:

  • 1. Evaluate the role of paraprofessionals in observing skin integrity changes in a patient's condition and why skin integrity is an important factor in patient health

  • 2. Describe when skin integrity concerns regarding a patient's health must be escalated to a clinical manager.

  • 3. Recognize which colour changes in a limb may indicate higher risk for a patient

  • 4. Demonstrate how to take a pulse and blood pressure reading to monitor a patient's health condition and to communicate these readings effectively to a nurse

  • 5. Use appropriate documentation and communication techniques when interacting with other members of the healthcare team

  • 6. Analyze common diagnostic procedures, tests, and treatments to assist with patient care
