Micro-credential Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this micro-credential, learners should be able to:

  • Examine pedagogy development and how learning happens within early years and childcare settings

  • Evaluate the “Four Foundations” of learning including, belonging, engagement, wellbeing, and expression within early years and childcare environments

  • Examine the various curriculum models that are tailored towards early years including, Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, and High Scope

  • hExamine the importance of supporting the child and family, community, and other educators within the early years sector

  • Develop forms of pedagogical documentation used to support educators with making connections with children and their learning experiences

  • Evaluate personal desires, biases, and self-reflection for wanting to pursue a career within the Early Childhood Educator profession

Micro-credential Overview

This online, asynchronous, micro-credential provides students with a brief introduction to How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years and Child Care. Students will explore how to implement curriculum and pedagogy while working within the 4 Foundations of well-being, expression, belonging and engagement. Students will also begin to practice skills necessary in the process of pedagogical documentation. They will also examine the importance of building relationships and will engage in reflective practice, reflecting on their own personal biases that could affect their interactions while working with children and families.
