Upon successful completion of this micro-credential, learners should be able to:
Discuss the importance of inclusion and some of the concerns and challenges concerning inclusion within educational settings
Examine the Rights of the Child and relevant legislation, including support programs available in Ontario
Analyze exceptionalities and one’s attitudes, perspectives and thoughts concerning exceptionalities
Examine the importance of establishing healthy partnerships with families, colleagues, children and other social service organizations as it relates to inclusivity and early identification
Plan inclusive environments that meet the learning and developmental needs of children with exceptionalities
Recognize common assistive technologies that are often used by children with exceptionalities
In this micro-credential, learners will be provided with a brief introduction to working with children and youth who display categories of exceptionalism. This course is designed for students interested in studying exceptionalities for the first time. It is expected that students will acquire knowledge of the inclusive approach and legislation, the importance of partnerships, the role of the early childhood educator as well as the process of early identification. A preview of strategies that can be used when working with children in an inclusive environment will also be presented for reflection.
