Micro-credential Overview

In this 30-hour self-directed online micro-credential, learners will learn how to prevent, assess, and treat different types of pressure injuries.  Learners will explore the prevention, the Braden Scale and risk assessment for pressure injuries. Learners will then discover the wide range of treatment options available to treat pressure injuries and the need to address the treatment of the cause as part of the process. Additionally, learners will learn the importance of person-centred concerns, local wound care and active therapies specifically for pressure injuries.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this micro-credential, learners should be able to:

  • Determine patient’s Braden Scale score and how to address their risk for developing pressure injuries

  • Discuss different treatment approaches for patients with pressure injuries and which interprofessional team member should be included in the treatment planning

  • Determine how to approach patient’s concerns with pain and the different lifestyle factors that can be addressed and improved

  • Discuss the preventative strategies that should be implemented to avoid pressure injuries from developing

  • Determine which moisture management technique should be used depending on the type of pressure injury

  • Discuss how to approach patients who are living with exudate leaking and appropriate dressing and care to address this concern

  • Determine how to assess and treat patients with different types of signs and symptoms and risk for pressure injuries
