Overview

In this short online micro-credential, learners will explore what a board is and why we have them, as well as the different duties, roles, and responsibilities of boards. Learners will learn about the relationship between the board and chief executive and distinguish when a committee should be formed or when to use a task force. Lastly, learners will explore the board's role in fund development and be able to communicate leading effective board practices.

Learners who successfully complete the course will earn a digital badge and certificate of course completion that can be downloaded and shared via social media. 

You will have access to the course for 90 days to work through the content.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Explain what a board is and why we have them

  • List the three duties, four roles, and ten responsibilities of boards

  • Clarify the relationship between the board and the chief executive

  • Distinguish when to create a committee and when to use a task force

  • Describe the board's role in fund development

  • Communicate leading effective board practices

  • Develop strategies and solutions to build boards that work using a variety of case scenarios
