Micro-credential Overview

In this six-hour micro-credential, learners will learn about antipsychotics and how they can be used to treat psychosis and other related disorders. Learners will discover the types of antipsychotics as well as their pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetic characteristics. Additionally, learners will be able to recognize the risks associated with various antipsychotic medications and the measures that can be taken to prevent these risks. Lastly, learners will explore various case scenarios, which will provide them with the opportunity to provide basic health education to clients taking antipsychotics.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this micro-credential, learners should be able to:

  • List the different types of antipsychotics and differentiate their pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties

  • Identify common risks associated with antipsychotics and how they are managed

  • Identify common antipsychotics and their properties

  • Provide basic health teaching to clients taking antipsychotics

  • Evaluate the reasons why a particular medication is used to treat the different symptoms of psychosis

  • Differentiate between positive and negative symptoms of psychosis

  • Explain the role of different neurotransmitters in psychosis and related disorders
