This 8-hour micro-credential offers students a comprehensive exploration into the history and transformation of patient medical records, from traditional hand-written paper charts to modern Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) accessible on digital platforms. Through engaging modules and interactive content, learners will gain a foundational understanding of the evolution, significance, and functionalities of EMRs in contemporary healthcare settings.

Learners who successfully complete the course will earn a digital badge and certificate of course completion that can be downloaded and shared via social media.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, learners should be able to:

  • 1. Identify the history of medical data recording and retention to better understand how this process has evolved over time.

  • 2. Recognize the reasons and evolvement of electronic medical records (EMRs) to better support patient care.

  • 3. Differentiate an Electronic Health Record (EHR) from an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

  • 4. Identify who has access to EMRs, and how users access this information.

  • 5. Explore the features included in an Electronic Medical Record using a simulation

  • 6. Evaluate how the different features operate using an Electronic Medical Records simulation

  • 7. Work with Electronic Medical Records using a simulation to become familiar with the different features and tabs available to support patient care
